We are a week and a half into our trip and I was once again far too ambitious in my 'I'll just do it on the road' planning. As such, there has been little other than one delicious soup round these parts lately. That said, the relative tranquility [neglect, sorry] is solely due to the fact that RJ and I have been traipsing around the Pacific Northwest, taking Portland by storm and eating as much as possible along the way. Here's a taste of what we've been up to once we landed in LA and hopped on … [Read more...]
Perfect Apple Crumble Pie
I love Pie, it's as simple as that. Crust I can take or leave - unless it's chocolate or graham cracker and attached to Cheesecake but that is another dream for another day - but Pie filling, yes please. Custard, cream, fruit, whatever, they're all fair game. Needless to say, I was quite happy when we chose 'Sweet as Pie' for our June Sweet Adventures Blog Hop. I'm not sure if you remember my Crazy Pink Pie from a few months back but shortly after making that one I went even more out … [Read more...]
Hartsyard Seed & Feed – Newtown, Sydney
There's a new kid on the block in Newtown. A warm welcoming space, it has enough rustic wood and homestead touches to make it cozy, enough industrial metal and geometric textured artwork to make it chic, and a menu that will have you planning a return visit just to try all the things you didn't order first time around. Hartsyard Seed & Feed is at first impression exactly as described on their site 'An inner-city homestead built for comfort and conversation'. Warm and inviting, it's a … [Read more...]
Fluffy Blueberry & Spelt Vegan Pancakes
No matter how beautiful the view, it is always difficult living somewhere that is at least a 24hr trip away from family and friends. But it is always a bit more, obvious, when there's happy news, difficult times, special occasions and holidays which would otherwise be spent with those who are far away. Now on this weekend in many cities around the globe there are fun runs for Mother's Day. Sydney has the MDC each year and RJ and I have done it off and on over time, but growing up my family … [Read more...]
Things and stuff and more things – Dessert!
What is it about dessert that inspires such awe and devotion? Dessert posts without fail garner more attention than savory meals - no matter how decadent those meals may be. Full TV shows dedicated to amazing creations of sugar and magic have taken over the airwaves in recent years. Even the most decadent degustation meals are punctuated and talked about and defined [more often than not] by the dessert choices at the end. Good desserts are the popular girl at the party, the new mysterious kid … [Read more...]
Things and stuff and more things – ‘Stralia Day
Happy Australia Day! Or if you want to sound like a local, Happy 'Stralia Day Maate. You should probably go make Lamingtons or Pavlova or eat a meat pie to celebrate. We however had Pumpkin Pie Pancakes for brunch and watched out the window as it rained, then pretended to clear up, then rained, then pretended to clear up. Around 5 we got sick of waiting for the weather to cooperate and headed into the city to sit by the water and drink cider and watch some jazz - the rain stayed away. Then we … [Read more...]
Things and stuff and more things… SOPA
Stuff-n-Things Thursday is here a day early, and although there are a few things I had to show you this week they are on hold until next week due to SOPA. As I 'live' online these days I feel that I have a bit of a responsibility to at least tip my hat to the worldwide internet protest happening right now. Let's note up-front that I have not done near enough research on this subject, these are just a few things I've come across recently. The 'Stop Online Piracy Act' or SOPA's full … [Read more...]
