2012 Trip’n: First up – Portland

We are a week and a half into our trip and I was once again far too ambitious in my ‘I’ll just do it on the road‘ planning. As such, there has been little other than one delicious soup round these parts lately.

That said, the relative tranquility [neglect, sorry] is solely due to the fact that RJ and I have been traipsing around the Pacific Northwest, taking Portland by storm and eating as much as possible along the way.

Here’s a taste of what we’ve been up to once we landed in LA and hopped on over to one of the biggest foodie cities in America-land…

The first two nights before IFBC we stayed in one of our old stand-bys.

Just around the corner there are 100 beers on tap to complement the brilliant Portland institution of ‘Happy Hour Food‘ – much, much more on this wonderful nightly event in the future.

Needless to say, our no drinking after long flights rule went to the wayside pretty quickly, and then there was this plate of ridiculous decadence – Waffle fries with Gorgonzola sauce. Yeah. That.

Wednesday morning started with Brunch, of course.

Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones you aren’t looking for.

After a round of Mexican for breakfast on Thursday, we divided and conquered – one guess as to who had what – for lunch.

… before doing this.

But we did move over to the conference venue that afternoon – public transport with luggage in tow – so, you know, rationalisation.

One of the best things about blogging conferences – besides the people and the sessions – are the extracurricular bits like parties and this…

Speaking of the conference, it was great to attend one focussed on food blogging specifically! I met a heap of inspiring and friendly people and the swag didn’t contain a single toddler pain medication or hair shampoo…

I really enjoyed Kathleen Flinn’s Writing Workshop and the publisher lead e-Book session, but the kicker was the last day on food photography with Andrew Scrivani and Chef John – brilliant.

When the conference ended RJ and I stuck around for a few days and it was back to the eating…

more eating…

more exploring…

and a bit more eating…

before moving on to Kalispell, Montana to explore Glacier National Park – hey, we have to hike off all this food so we can start again…

Phew! Hungry?

Wow, I had no idea that Portland was so cool! It looks like such a pretty & rustic place and the food looks amazing. Let me guess…RJ went to the meditation place for lunch.
