Christmas is almost here and other than a few things gifted throughout the year and a bit of a retail-therapy present to myself today, neither RJ nor I have done a single bit of holiday shopping. Whoops. We do however have a few things in mind for each other and, while Christmas morning may be a bit sparse, we'll be making up for it with the post-Christmas sales. In the meantime I figured I'd share some ideas on the off chance you are in the same boat. --------- 1. The Kinfolk Table … [Read more...]
Gumtree Garden – The Rocks, Sydney (feeding my design addiction)
If there were more hours in the day what would you like to do? Of course there are the obvious answers -- spend more time with family, cure hunger, create world peace (I'm so Miss Universe material) -- but those aside what would hobby would you take up? What skill would you learn just for yourself? It should come as no surprise that I'm an extremely visual person and, although food is my first love, I have a secret, burning passion for design. I would love to be able to take a room and … [Read more...]
A peek at something I’ve been working on…
It's no secret things have been a bit quiet around here lately and if you follow 84th on various social media you would have seen little snippets of an enormous project I was working on from the end of July until just a few days ago. I mentioned that I'd edited, photographed and published a mini-cookbook for Jackie M back in June and July, but in the midst of wrapping that project we were already knee deep in the next one -- a digital magazine! What started as project management … [Read more...]
Tea Time Tuesday #2 – Green Chai and keeping it real
Tea Time Tuesday on a Friday because that's about how things look around here these days. It is just large enough to keep me happy. And just to keep it real, a quick peek into where I've been spending most of my time lately... Yes, I work on an iPad and computer at the same time, I still … [Read more...]
Williams-Sonoma, West Elm, Pottery Barn & Pottery Barn Kids now open in Sydney!
The entry way of each store beckons you from the footpath, only to stop you in your tracks with stunning displays just inside the door. The ceiling-high shelves and multi-layered vignettes pull you from side to side, deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of design and colour and light. This past Wednesday, I had the opportunity to tour the Williams-Sonoma, West Elm, Pottery Barn & Pottery Barn Kids stores in Bondi Junction before they officially opened to the public. I have been waiting … [Read more...]

6 Natural Food-based Easter Egg Dyes
It's official, this whole need-to-create-things is hereditary. Not only the creativity gene bit but the comfort found in just making stuff. I was at mum's house for a few weeks during our last trip and one day she brought out a lovely, frilly, very colourful apron, "Look! I saw this and had to get it for you. Thought it may be a bit of inspiration... you could make these!" It was a cute apron, and it did give me a few new ideas, but in the midst of packing our already busting suitcases … [Read more...]
