Bacon, bacon, bacon, bacon, for years everyone has been obsessed with bacon. The craze reached a fever pitch somewhere around 2010/11 and while every expert has predicted [hoped for] its demise ever since our addiction to bacon seems to give no hint of waning. Not only are there stacks of savory recipes out there but you can find hundreds of festivals in celebration of it and websites devoted to its existence. Then, as is always the case with any trend, bacon made its way into desserts. You … [Read more...]
How to: Pit Cherries (without a cherry pitter)
I'm not a big fan of single use tools. The drawers are pretty much full of multi-purpose bits and pieces already so whenever I come across a great way to make a task easier by simply using items already around the house I'm all for it. I originally saw this method over at Food 52 - and immediately filed it away, memories of red and purple stained fingernails from months earlier still spectacularly clear in my mind. I may have let these cherries languish a bit too long in the fridge before … [Read more...]
The best of 2012!
What a year 2012 has been - although I'm not quite sure where its gone, wasn't it March just a few days ago...? A Merry, Cherry, White Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
A white Christmas. As hard as mother nature tried this year, all she could do was rain on Sydney, not a single snow flake in sight. Not particularly surprising - but it's ok, because this time around I've taken it on myself to create my own white Christmas. Inspired by an image and a conversation seen on sesameellis's Instagram recently I was determined to get a big'ol fake white tree this year. But it was only days before Christmas once I made up my mind, and it was all just too hard, so I … [Read more...]
2013 Sydney Food Trend Predictions
The world is getting smaller and smaller. News shoots around the globe at an alarming pace, international travel is a regular occurrence and the internet facilitates a continual online cultural crossover on everything from fashion to music to medicine. So why is it that food trends seem to take an enormous amount of time to reach Australia? Are we playing catchup, is everyone waiting to see how it goes elsewhere, or are we all simply too busy eating seafood on the harbour? The end of year … [Read more...]
#decfoodphotos: December Foodie Photo-A-Day Challenge!
Back when Fat Mum Slim started her #fmsphotoaday challenge I was regularly playing along - I bet at that point she didn't have any idea how huge it would become! If you've participated you know all about the spectacular ideas people come up with from the prompts and the incredible images taken with phones. Now if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter or Facebook you know that most of what I take snaps of has to do with food... it just happens, I can't help it... So I was quite excited when … [Read more...]
