Last week I did a juice cleanse -- three days of low-fruit veggie juices, three days of no solid food, three days of realising how much I actually enjoy the act of eating and subsequently miss it. I'll share more about it one day but this post is not about that cleanse... It's about the homemade granola bars I made on the second day of said cleanse and photographed on the third day -- in between launching a website for a client and packing for 5 days in Adelaide -- without taking a single, … [Read more...]
Green Herb Pesto & In My Kitchen: April 2014
If you haven't noticed I'm rather prolific over on Instagram... ahem, and therefore each time I pull together a list for In My Kitchen I simply scroll back through photos shared since the last post to work out what's been going on. There is a bit of a method to the madness, even if the resulting collections appear as slightly randomly grouped items all in one place. That said my life is slightly random when put all in one place, so it fits. Anyway, it's once again time to link up with Celia … [Read more...]
Vegan Creamy Mushroom & Kale Soup
Another one to work my way through the archives. Made and shot in July last year to go with the Gluten Free Quinoa Cornbread, then promptly filed away -- until now. It is after all getting cooler again in Sydney and that can mean only one thing, soup season has arrived. I did originally have this post titled Magical Mushroom Soup -- now wouldn't that be a tease of a thing to do? Of course it is the soup that is magical rather than magical mushrooms (ahem) being used for soup. Apologies to … [Read more...]
Vanilla Amaranth Crumb Crust – Gluten-Free & Vegan
A quick post for a quick crust. One that is crumbly without crumbling biscuits. Buttery without any butter. Pressed with no pressure (too far? probably) and so fragrant and more-ish you'll want to use it for every pie you make ever again (I do love a bold assumption). As a side note this crust was photographed a couple hours before the fully assembled pie -- smack-bang in the middle of a make-the-morning-dark-as-night thunderstorm. The pics have been adjusted within an inch of … [Read more...]
Vegan Key Lime Pie (Nut-Free, Paleo & Raw too)
Hello there. In a fit of late-night brain-freeze I'm vignetting this, barely editing, and going to bed. Better buckle up. ------ On tenuous links... I'm hosting Sweet Adventures Blog Hop this month and with the hop starting on 17 March I simply had to make the theme St. Paddy's Day related. However, other than the festive green colour of this pie, any relation to the holiday, country of origin, or leprechauns at the end of rainbows are tenuous at best (and quite possibly … [Read more...]
Roasted Pear, Parmesan & Spiced Pecan Salad
Another one from the archives, a salad made and shot last September -- after Cape Cod and before our road trip -- at mom's farm. Two weeks amongst row of pears dropping fruit at our feet and grapes staining our fingers purple. Sometimes the words flow and sometimes they don't. Right now they aren't, so instead just some pictures to hopefully brighten your day -- and possibly your dinner. Pictures of medusa-esque pear trees so heavy with fruit they don't know what to do with … [Read more...]
Smokey Beer & Onion BBQ Sauce
Another one from the archives, this sauce was made and photographed as part of that Texas-inspired BBQ Brisket feast back in December. ------ BBQ Sauce makes everything better, simple as that. Eggs? Better with sauce. Tacos? Better with sauce. Burgers? Better with sauce. But most importantly, smoked brisket is most certainly better with a side of rich and fragrant BBQ Sauce for dipping and drizzling. This version is a bit thinner than your more traditional BBQ Sauce, more suited to … [Read more...]
