I just thought it would be best to warn you up front, these are spectacular. Crunchy, salty, cheesy, savoury, addictive. I'm one of those people who is usually quite satisfied with a small handful of chips or a single spoonful of ice cream or one slice of cake but with these crackers all bets are off. I'm not even kidding. It's the last Monday of the month and therefore time once again for a Secret Recipe Club post. This month I was assigned the lovely blog Fearless Homemaker, and talk about … [Read more...]
Genius Goat Chevre Icing
I've gone all mad-scientist-ish on you again. Not with fruits or veggies or nuts this time around, but instead with an aim to re-create one of my favourite ever icings without processed cow cheese or refined sugar. When it comes to dessert I'd be hard pressed to name a favourite. Mom's Sour Cream Chocolate Cake with ridiculously fudge-y Chocolate Icing does hold a special place in my heart and a stunning Lemon Meringue or Pumpkin Pie can completely silence me for the length of time it takes … [Read more...]
Watermelon & Cucumber Salad with Tahini, Coconut & Lime Dressing
Oh summer, please don't go. You've been nothing but a tease, an irritating teenager, and a raging lunatic for the past two years, but I keep hoping for a reasonable turn. Is it too much to ask for blue sky, reasonable beach temperatures and low humidity on a regular basis? But I must admit, even through the hotter-than-an-oven days and the rain and the indecision, I still love you more than winter. While the weather in Sydney has been schizophrenic at best this summer, the fruit has … [Read more...]
Fig, Fetta, Tahini & Thyme – an Almost Recipe
I don't create recipes the same way I post them. I think in arrows and chicken scratch and abbreviations. I have to make sure I write down oven temps and final cooking times and recipe titles or I'd end up with a pile of papers containing a list of ingredients and little else. But some things just don't need proper recipes or quantities or detailed instructions. A quick photo, a few simple ingredients and maybe a note or two will suffice. As I regularly post dishes on Facebook via … [Read more...]
In my kitchen: December 2012
Each month, Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial hosts a feature called 'In my kitchen'. After months of peeking in through the window at other people I figured it was time to share what's happening on my own yellow laminate benchtop! A few new discoveries and a few fun bits and pieces - here we go... In my kitchen this December is: Further proof of my purple vegetable obsession manifesting in the form of purple kale and purple carrots from Eveleigh Market. ...yellow bench-top covered … [Read more...]
Vegetarian Pumpkin Spelt Lasagne
It was dreary during our last two days in NYC. The grey skies and misty drizzle encouraged the continuation of my hairdryer boycott and although we complained a bit, it didn't stop us from getting out of the apartment to enjoy the city. It was still dark as we headed to Laguardia at 6.30 am on Thursday morning. Arriving in Mexico eight or so hours later we were greeted with a stunning blue sky obscured only by night and an occasional passing wisp of a pretend cloud. On Friday evening … [Read more...]
Vegan Vanilla & Chocolate Cashew Cheesecake
I don't do normal particularly well - especially when it comes to recipes. I always have to go slightly left of centre, or right, whatever, but rarely straight down the middle. I make pies with beetroot or purple carrots, I make ice cream with avocados, I make sandwiches with fruit. So when we chose 'Nuts' as the Sweet Adventures Blog Hop theme for July my mind started ticking away. Baklava did occur to me, as it had for our 'Layers' theme in March, but the same thing that put me off of it … [Read more...]
