I'm simply not sure what keeps happening to the days these days. It seems every time I turn around another month (or middle of the month or end of the month) is upon us and it makes me twitch. As such it's once again been a while between In My Kitchen posts but I'm here now so lets get going shall we? As per usual this is a collection of things seen over on Instagram — reasonably edited, grouped in loosely interpreted categories and appearing no particular order. The Day Job Ok, I do know … [Read more...]
Nectarine & Almond Streusel Baked French Toast Casserole
Santa came to our house a day early when I was growing up. Mom said it was because he knew we drove to my grandmother's farm on Christmas Eve day so he stopped at our place first, ensuring the presents were ready and waiting on the morning of December 24. We'd wake up early, collecting stockings from the staircase on our way down to the tree, eat baked french toast for breakfast, pack, pile into the car and for the next 8 hours -- over the river and through the woods, obviously -- to … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Granola
J: can you please write a post about pumpkin granola for me? R: granola, it's good J: yeah, need a bit more than that R: ... J: ... R: I don't really like granola J: I'm not talking to you anymore. The pumpkin obsession continues, this time in the form of granola -- because while I'm perfectly fine with eating pie for breakfast some people may feel granola is more appropriate. I'd call those people silly but to each their own. At this point I should probably try to draw a … [Read more...]
Pineapple & Kiwi Green Smoothie and Prep.Prop.Style.Shoot Snapshots from Breakfast
When a chef, one who runs a holiday property in the country none the less, emails to ask if you want to come down to Tasmania to teach a two-day food photography and styling workshop, the only possible answer is yes. When she mentions that she'll do all the cooking, talks about stringing fairy lights through the trees for dinner and sends you photos of a possible picnic location at the end of a pier you know it's meant to be. And so it was that I found myself, a mere month after that … [Read more...]
Persimmon, Goat Cheese & Thyme Tartine
Remember my Radish & Butter open faced sandwich ramblings? Insert that here, but with two kinds of persimmons, goat cheese and thyme. Or if you're in the mood for a bit of information read on -- because not only am I a geek at heart but until a few months back, when a box of glowing orange fruit showed up at my door, I'd never eaten a persimmon. (And now that I have I'm a bit in love. Really.) I'd heard the warnings about persimmons, stories of astringent fruit that when not yet … [Read more...]
In My Kitchen: June 2015
It’s once again time for In My Kitchen and as per usual this is a collection of things from the past month — a small snippet of those seen over on Instagram — in loosely interpreted categories and no particular order… As always I’m linking up with Celia for IMK. ------ Kitchen Shenanigans Have you heard about Australia's Biggest Morning Tea? The lovely Sally and I are hosting a Virtual Morning Tea Party and we'd love you to join us in raising funds for the Cancer Council! You can find … [Read more...]
Egg, Salmon & Goat Cheese Baked Mushrooms
It's an established fact that I'm just a bit obsessed with brunch. It's also well documented that I'm a mushroom pusher from way back. And from the photos on this post I've quite possibly revealed how the story ends before it's even started... But if you skip the awards show and head straight to the party you'll miss the best ideas ever on how to get your daily Vitamin D, and that would be such a shame. So lets talk for a moment about Vitamin D, ok? Great. The mighty D is a vitamin … [Read more...]
