Pumpkin Pie does wonders for seasonally induced home-sickness. Don't laugh, it's a valid northern-hemisphere-displaced-persons affliction. It occurs in June -- when it gets cold and you keep hoping the Christmas lights will appear, and then again in November -- when you go to the beach on the weekends and see Christmas lights on the way home. With Thanksgiving only a few days away, it has kicked into high gear. ~~~ We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for a special … [Read more...]
Banana & Almond Butter Stuffed French Toast
Happy Bloggiversary to me! 84th & 3rd turned 1 year old last week and to celebrate I turned the computer off, boycotted cooking and went to yoga, I deserved it. A whole year, can you believe it? In honour of this momentous event I made French Toast for brunch this past weekend. Not this French Toast, or this one but a whole new beast - Banana and Almond Butter Stuffed French Toast. And it doesn't stop there... vanilla, orange juice, and oh, right, Bourbon. Because you can't really have a … [Read more...]
The Great Australian Pavlova Blog Hop
Hey you! Yes, you. Stop looking around like there is someone else I could be talking to. You are reading a food blog if you haven't noticed [well mostly food, so close enough] so it was only a matter of time before I asked you to play along... The Great Australian Pavlova Blog Hop Late last week I ended up in a conversation on Twitter with Delicieux, The Hungry Australian, Dining With a Stud, and The Capers of the Kitchen Crusader, about none other than the wondrous Pavlova. Based on the … [Read more...]
Peanut Butter Truffles
Damn you Twitter and Pinterest. All I've seen for days are different interpretations of Peanut Butter and Chocolate - baked together, mashed together, mixed together. I came home from work this evening and could no longer resist - so I made the most literal [and quick] interpretation I could think of. You could use all Peanut Putter - I used half and half, Almond and Peanut Butters because I don't usually eat Peanut Butter but still have some buried in the back of the fridge. You could double … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Pie Spread
Um, yum, just yum. For as much as I love Cake! I am at least as equally obsessed with Pie! Not the crust bit mind you, in my opinion it really just gets in the way of the business end of pie - the filling. Sweet, savory, creamy, fruity, whatever, I could sit with a pie tin and eat the whole middle bit - one small spoonful at a time. Now I've just shared with you my crusade on pumpkin, so what else to do but get straight to the point on this one. Apple, pumpkin, spices and voila, a spread … [Read more...]
Blood Orange and Almond Upside-down Cake
I've made this cake a few times recently - all in the name of testing of course - tweeking ingredients, adjusting flavours, getting it just right. So when organic blood oranges made an appearance in the shops a couple of weeks back I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use them. Around the same time, the October Unprocessed initiative was launched for 2011. As we have essentially been eating unprocessed [and a bit further] since last year, I signed the pledge and then I put up my hand to … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Pie Pancakes
It is officially autumn in America-land. The seasons are changing, Halloween is full steam ahead there are pumpkin recipes everywhere. Sydney on the other hand has not yet woken up to the fact that it should be getting warmer here, and although it is now light until after 7pm [thank you daylight savings] it still feels more like winter than spring. All of these things combined, along with the promise I made to continue the 'brunch we never had' and the fact that shortly the trip recap will … [Read more...]
