It's been a bit busy on the work front, and subsequently a bit quiet around here lately, but I couldn't let Easter pass without yet another Hot Cross Bun recipe. Spiked with chai tea and plenty of spices, the dates are kneaded into the dough creating swirls throughout the soft, just-sweet buns. Simple and a bit moody (the day, the buns and the styling), they gave me the perfect excuse to pull out my new crafty, DIY tiled background. Half of these went to work with RJ, the other half … [Read more...]
In My Kitchen: January 2014
Oh dear, it's again been quite a while since I've linked up with Celia for an In My Kitchen post so this is a big one. I may as well get started right away... ----- Kitchen shenanigans The original caption on this pic said it all: Getting back to basics - no computer or finances or real estate or real life. Just eggs, flour and bare hands kneading away the day. It was rolled and cut by hand because I couldn't be bothered with the pasta machine. Then topped with a simple pasta sauce … [Read more...]
13 Holiday Gift Ideas for 2013
Christmas is almost here and other than a few things gifted throughout the year and a bit of a retail-therapy present to myself today, neither RJ nor I have done a single bit of holiday shopping. Whoops. We do however have a few things in mind for each other and, while Christmas morning may be a bit sparse, we'll be making up for it with the post-Christmas sales. In the meantime I figured I'd share some ideas on the off chance you are in the same boat. --------- 1. The Kinfolk Table … [Read more...]
Vegan Chocolate Magic Shell & Halloween Green Goo Magic Shell
Seriously? How cool is magic shell? It starts all liquid-y then BAM it's frozen and shatter-y the minute it hits anything frozen. The stuff from the grocery store has all sorts of crap in it of course, but you can make it at home with just two (or three) pantry staples. As these two versions were used to coat Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Bars (stay tuned for the recipe tomorrow!) I left them un-sweetened and the slightly bitter edge paired brilliantly with the ice cream, but if you … [Read more...]
In My Kitchen: September/October 2013
As good as it was to be off on another adventure it is so very good to be back in my own kitchen and eating veggies on a regular basis. I contemplated doing a collage of the food we ate while we were away but there is just too much of it... I'm not even kidding. Most of the fun things from our holiday ended up on Instagram so if you are looking to waste time, plan an eating holiday, or just make yourself hungry go for it. In the meantime here are a few things from before we left, things … [Read more...]
Tea Time Tuesday #4: Green Ginger & my recipe in a cookbook alongside Maggie Beer
Yep, you read right my recipe alongside Maggie Beer, imagine that. If you've been around these parts for a while you'll remember back when my Pear, Goat Cheese & Caramelised Onion Jam Sandwich won the 'What can you pair with a pear' recipe competition. Well that very recipe is now rubbing shoulders with creations from Australian chefs such as Vincent Gadan, Justin North, David Bitton and the aforementioned Maggie Beer, in a new cookbook from Australian Pears. Rediscover … [Read more...]
Vegan Chai Pumpkin Latte
Crazy coffee-chain creations, and coffee at all for that matter, chai from powders, sticky sweet flavoured lattes - they just aren't for me. A clean straight-up green chai, a pure and floral white, even an occasional peppermint - that is much more my cup of tea, pardon the pun. But this? This is the goodness of chai spices and the decadence of pumpkin all wrapped up in a creamy warm mug of magic for Tea Time Tuesday. I probably could should have called it a Pumpkin Pie Latte... Now if … [Read more...]
