One day in late June... J: I just want to run away from it all R: . . . R: *raises eyebrow* J: oh, with you of course R: so when should we leave? Sometimes, in lieu of an immediate departure from the daily grind, chocolate for breakfast is the only solution. No judgement if you make it again and call it dessert. … [Read more...]
Lemon, Coconut & Passionfruit Popsicles
When one makes bowls and bowls of meringue and swiss meringue buttercream for a completely insane cake, one is left with a container of egg yolks. And when one is left with a container of egg yolks one has little other option than to make lemon curd (obviously). Now I could have stopped there and eaten lemon curd on all the things for days and that would have been ok with me... But there was also an enormous bag of passionfruit on the bench from a recent media … [Read more...]
In My Kitchen: July 2015
It’s once again time for In My Kitchen and as per usual this is a collection of things from the past month — a small snippet of those seen over on Instagram — in loosely interpreted categories and no particular order… As always I’m linking up with Celia for IMK. ------ Kitchen Shenanigans Willy Wonka eat your heart out (aka this is what happens when I say I'll make the cake for the MIL's 80th b-day). For those keeping score it was made up of 2 layers coconut cake, 2 layers … [Read more...]
Fruit Smash Toast
This isn't a real recipe, not really. But that doesn't make it any less perfect as an instant meal solution. You see I'm a huge fan of stuff on toast. The key is that it's sliced, toasted and topped -- in this instance with fruit, … [Read more...]

If you're located anywhere in Australia you'll know that Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is once again in full swing. And if you've been around here before you'll probably know that I've been a big supporter of the Cancer Council's annual fundraising campaign for quite a while. It's a cause pretty close to my heart. Fig & Walnut Chai Porridge
They say necessity is the mother of invention and one morning not so long ago breakfast was a necessity (as it is most mornings, obviously). But this fateful morning, before I sliced and toasted the last Hot Cross Bun, I rang RJ to say hello... R: hey, that toasted Sticky Date and Chai Hot Cross Bun you made for me this morning -- are there any more left? J: one... R: can I have it for breakfast tomorrow? J: ... R: ... J: sure. And so in the absence of my intended breakfast … [Read more...]
