Another one to work my way through the archives. Made and shot in July last year to go with the Gluten Free Quinoa Cornbread, then promptly filed away -- until now. It is after all getting cooler again in Sydney and that can mean only one thing, soup season has arrived. I did originally have this post titled Magical Mushroom Soup -- now wouldn't that be a tease of a thing to do? Of course it is the soup that is magical rather than magical mushrooms (ahem) being used for soup. Apologies to … [Read more...]
Taste of Sydney 2014 and IconPark
Taste of Sydney has once again returned to Centennial Park and this past Thursday evening RJ and I had the opportunity to head over and check it out. As per usual there are plenty of restaurants with special menus just for the event, and a whole host of producers talking passionately about everything from wine to pastries to free range meat. However this year I did notice there seem to be a few more chill out lounge-y areas which is a nice way to take a break and laze in the sun -- or the … [Read more...]
Buttermilk Pumpkin Pie for Pi Day
Happy Pi Day! That's right, not Pie Day -- that one falls on 23 January each year as declared by The American Pie Council, "the only organisation committed to preserving America's pie heritage ... [to] raise awareness, enjoyment and consumption of pies". But Pi Day -- derived from the date matching the first three digits of Pi, an infinite non-repeating pattern created by the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter aka 3.14159265359andonandonitgoes. Apparently Pi Day was … [Read more...]
Roasted Pear, Parmesan & Spiced Pecan Salad
Another one from the archives, a salad made and shot last September -- after Cape Cod and before our road trip -- at mom's farm. Two weeks amongst row of pears dropping fruit at our feet and grapes staining our fingers purple. Sometimes the words flow and sometimes they don't. Right now they aren't, so instead just some pictures to hopefully brighten your day -- and possibly your dinner. Pictures of medusa-esque pear trees so heavy with fruit they don't know what to do with … [Read more...]
Sweet Potato Stout Quick Bread
If this is your first time here you may be better served heading over to look at popsicles or brownies and coming back another day... It's been an, interesting, few weeks on a few different fronts and I'm feeling a bit ranty. Still around? Well you've been warned, and as always there is cake at the end so make yourself a cup of tea and take cover. It's not just that I'm ranty, I'm relatively pissed off and generally annoyed -- at people who blame others for their mistakes or don't take … [Read more...]
Vegetarian Fajita Soup
I don't make New Years resolutions. I never really have. However this year, after an interesting 2013, I've found myself thinking more than usual about what I want to achieve in 2014. The list is long and varied, but one thing that features near the top is working through a stack of draft posts (61 to date), and backlogged recipes recent enough to have acceptable pics, and actually posting them. This is one of those -- on both accounts. A creation born of a craving for Mexican … [Read more...]
Grape & Rosemary Focaccia – Schiacciata Con l’Uva
The air is heady and sweet, greeting us as we turn into the driveway, painting our thoughts purple. It is the scent of bubblegum and ice blocks and lollies, the scent associated with most grape-flavoured childhood treats, yet not usually with real grapes. We stand in the middle of the wide green yard, taking in the vineyard's proud perfume for a moment before we wave absentmindedly back at the farmhouse and head for the leafy rows. Dodging dogs, skipping over patches of poison ivy … [Read more...]
