Pumpkin Pie does wonders for seasonally induced home-sickness. Don't laugh, it's a valid northern-hemisphere-displaced-persons affliction. It occurs in June -- when it gets cold and you keep hoping the Christmas lights will appear, and then again in November -- when you go to the beach on the weekends and see Christmas lights on the way home. With Thanksgiving only a few days away, it has kicked into high gear. ~~~ We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for a special … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Pie Spread
Um, yum, just yum. For as much as I love Cake! I am at least as equally obsessed with Pie! Not the crust bit mind you, in my opinion it really just gets in the way of the business end of pie - the filling. Sweet, savory, creamy, fruity, whatever, I could sit with a pie tin and eat the whole middle bit - one small spoonful at a time. Now I've just shared with you my crusade on pumpkin, so what else to do but get straight to the point on this one. Apple, pumpkin, spices and voila, a spread … [Read more...]
Ode to Pumpkin
Pumpkin rose to fame under the guise of a split personality - playing both the princess and the evil stepmother with aplomb. On one hand, puffed up and polished within an inch of its life as the golden carriage every little girl wanted to get married in. On the other, carved away and lit from the inside to reveal its inner daemons and protect houses from the spirits of All Hallows Eve. But in all its glory it was still just the bridesmaid - second to a glass slipper and piles of candy, … [Read more...]
Pumpkin Pie Pancakes
It is officially autumn in America-land. The seasons are changing, Halloween is full steam ahead there are pumpkin recipes everywhere. Sydney on the other hand has not yet woken up to the fact that it should be getting warmer here, and although it is now light until after 7pm [thank you daylight savings] it still feels more like winter than spring. All of these things combined, along with the promise I made to continue the 'brunch we never had' and the fact that shortly the trip recap will … [Read more...]
Perfect Banana Cake with White Choc Passion-Fruit Icing
I think I owe you a cake post. Here I am talking about hotels, and travels, and footy but there has been a distinct lack of cake. Now anyone popping over from October Unprocessed ~ waves ~ hi! ~ is looking at this cake and probably saying 'how is she listed on the #unprocessed posting roll-call and baking stuff like this?'. Easy, it's not for me ... I have been making the cakes for work birthdays lately and, well, there is not quite the desire that I have to eschew sugar and butter and white … [Read more...]
Cornbread Waffles with Cinnamon Apple Compote
Now I figure that all this trip recapping will go on for quite a while, and in the meantime the least I can do is make you brunch. That said, it is only fair to let you know that the sub-title of this post is 'the brunch we didn't have until now'... Someone Tweeted a pic the first day of Blogher from Cafe 222 in San Diego. I looked it up on The Google Machine and decided that as it was just on the edge of Gas Lamp, and only blocks from our hotel, we needed to go there immediately if not … [Read more...]
Spicy Carrot, Tomato and Lentil Soup
I love soup. I know, it's a big statement. There is this little cafe downstairs from my day-job office. They are friendly, and they make a good cup of tea and they have soup at lunch....$8.50 soup. It does come with lovely bread, but really, $8.50? It is not any more expensive, and is actually at times cheaper, than any of the other cafes around. This soup was inspired by one of their regular ones, and it is so simple I have made it twice already. As much as I used to call North … [Read more...]
