I've recently decided to manage my photos slightly differently on the site. So in the hunt for a decent plug-in to pull the Flickr stream through [including 2 false starts with two of the top rated ones] there has been a bit of a delay on posting! Pretty pics soon but for now, a reasonably amusing phone conversation that I had recently with a person who shall remain nameless [sort of]... [JJ] 'Hi m-m" [M] 'Hi, did you get my text messages the other day?' - 'Nope' 'Oh darn, they … [Read more...]
It’s not that I’m not thinking about you…
...I have been, really, but most of my free time not in the office [ie the job that buys the groceries and plane tickets] has been spent finishing up the packaging art for @ThePantry [!!!!!!!!!!] and not cooking, or taking pictures or doing blog posts. So instead here is some random stuff and stream of consciousness and what's been happening updates, just because.... It has been bloody cold here. The mornings hover around 8 degrees [mid-40s or so] but THERE IS NO INDOOR HEATING in most … [Read more...]
French Toast-ed Grilled Cheese
It's French Toast on the outside and Grilled Cheese on the inside, kind of like the old Wheel of Fortune before and after puzzles...but even better, instead of some random living room suite, the prize is tasty and delicious, and not covered in brown corduroy. The trick to good Grilled Cheese, and French Toast for that matter, is heat control. Even if [especially if?] it is 2am and you are just getting home and desperate for savoury gooey-ness. You just cannot rush even browning and … [Read more...]
Classic Pumpkin Soup
We stayed local for brunch last weekend instead of heading over the bridge like usual. Wandering around our neighbourhood in an attempt to try out a new place, we could only find one that was still serving a breakfast menu after 12pm - our semi-regular one of course...oh well, at least we attempted variation! The rest of them - how dare they all not embrace brunch?! We split Corn Fritters with Smoked Trout and Poached Eggs, and a bowl of Pumpkin Soup - perfect. Interestingly, nearly … [Read more...]
Delicious bacon tied in a windsor knot
This just landed: I had to open it to see what on earth the offer was. Seriously can't stop laughing. This is hysterical. If I ate bacon I would totally buy it. I wonder if this is what inspired GaGa. … [Read more...]
Reconsider everything…
There are so many directions this could head in but I'm going to go with: What-ever will the vegans eat now? Cannibals! Heathens! Please excuse me while I go make a Banana Smoothie. … [Read more...]
Orange Braised Red Cabbage
It's cold. Last week was like November in Philly - grey, wet and really really cold [so, low of 11 degrees...just above 50...but cold is relative but I don't do cold, especially wet cold]. The weather has sent me into a comfort food spiral of soups, breads and hearty winter vegetables. The other night as I was rummaging through the crisper and decided I HAD TO HAVE Braised Red Cabbage. This is a pretty quick recipe. None of that bake for 2 hours stuff going on here. It keeps a bit of … [Read more...]
