Growing up there were only two foods I wouldn't touch - mustard and mushrooms. Ironic isn't it that I'm pickier now than I was as a child... At some point I discovered the magic that happens to mushrooms when you cook them - lets be honest, it probably happened due to either Chinese take-away or pizza - and it was game on from that point forward. I still won't touch raw mushrooms but any and all cooked mushrooms are welcome on my plate. Mustard was a tougher one and who knows what … [Read more...]
Moroccan Lamb Shanks & Gremolata
There is something wonderfully satisfying about a slow cooked stew in winter. Given, I don't eat this one myself but every now and then RJ asks for it by name and I simply can't resist. I've mentioned before that I'm a veg-aquarian and, until very recently, it's been roughly 15 years since I've eaten meat. However the consumption of meat has always been a texture / flavour / heath issue for me, never an ethical one, and I really enjoy cooking with it. We do try to buy organic and … [Read more...]

Vegan Chai Pumpkin Latte
Crazy coffee-chain creations, and coffee at all for that matter, chai from powders, sticky sweet flavoured lattes - they just aren't for me. A clean straight-up green chai, a pure and floral white, even an occasional peppermint - that is much more my cup of tea, pardon the pun. But this? This is the goodness of chai spices and the decadence of pumpkin all wrapped up in a creamy warm mug of magic for Tea Time Tuesday. I probably could should have called it a Pumpkin Pie Latte... Now if … [Read more...]
Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffles
Back in 2010, well before the 'I Quit Sugar' craze took hold, we cut the sweet stuff out of our diet. It was part of a larger change in how we eat and in one fell swoop we cleaned out the cupboards and went cold turkey. (If you're interested, you can read all about it here). The first few weeks were challenging to say the least but the results were remarkable. I've learned a bit over the past few years, now use rice syrup instead of apple juice concentrate amongst other things, and while I'm … [Read more...]
8 tips to clean silver naturally & keep it tarnish-free
My grandmother told me many years ago that the best way to keep silver shiny is to use it regularly. Turns out she is right, however most of us keep it stored away for special occasions only to pull it out and find it covered in tarnish. So why does it tarnish in the first place? How do you clean it naturally - without commercial chemical-laden products? And what is the best way to store it to avoid tarnish in the first place? Why silver tarnishes Silver tarnishes because of … [Read more...]
