Sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Like the day I landed on Food.Baby.Life, my assigned blog for March Secret Recipe Club, and the first post on the first page was for a grain-free chocolate granola. And that granola called out to me so loudly that I didn't want to go any further. But I did, because it's the responsible thing to do, and I'm so glad I dug a bit deeper... I discovered that Susan -- a mum to three little ones under five who is also studying Naturopathy -- is … [Read more...]
Garlic Rainbow Chard & Chipotle Spiced Seeds
There's been a lot of cake around here lately. A lot. But there's only so much cake one girl can eat (or so the waistband of my pants tells me). So I figured it was high time for something veggie based... No, not veggie based like all those cakes, but simple sautéed green veggies. Wait, don't go! It's not all green veggies, I used rainbow ones, that must count for something. And they are brilliantly garlic-y. And I put spiced seeds on top. And an egg, a … [Read more...]
Summer Fruit Platter Smoothie
Ok, ok, so you're probably not going to make a fruit platter for the sole purpose of throwing it all in a blender. BUT if you were to make a fruit platter for a bbq and end up with leftovers once the festivities ended, throwing it all in a blender the next day would be the perfect solution to reclaiming your fridge shelf back. That said, 'Leftover Fruit Platter Smoothie' didn't quite have the same ring to it, so 'Summer' won. On the other hand if you had a crowd for breakfast … [Read more...]
Mushroom Falafel
From the moment I knew I'd be bringing you another recipe as part of the Australian Mushroom Growers Summer Mushrooms campaign I had a plan to make mushroom falafel. Light, nourishing bites with a mushroom and smokey paprika umami hit. Creamy lemon tahini sauce. Crunchy iceberg lettuce and spicy radishes. Fresh enough for those still in holiday recovery mode, rich enough to satiate a craving for a proper meal, fast. Perfect simple summer eating if I do say so myself. But other … [Read more...]
Maple Orange Spice Macadamia Nuts
There is only one word to describe these spice-coated macadamia nuts -- addictive. Addictive as in keep tasting them just to make sure they're ok, and make twice what you need, and you better stop now lest you have none to give away addictive. They are crunchy and fragrant and stunningly easy to make -- as a matter of fact the hardest part of the whole recipe is waiting for them to cool before eating. These orange spiced macadamias are the second gift I included in my foodie … [Read more...]
Oatmeal Cookie Dough Bites {Raw, Vegan, Nut-Free, Gluten-Free}
Oatmeal cookies were one of my favourite things growing up. Our go-to recipe was the one on the top of the rolled oat canister -- not the current one or the one before that but the one that existed back in the 80s and to this day still lives on a cardboard cut-out in my mom's recipe box. We always made them with raisins. Those soft, chewy cookies were a special treat, but the best part of baking them was eating the raw dough straight from the bowl. It's been ages since I've made … [Read more...]
Radish & Butter Tartine
This is not a real post, or even a real recipe. It's what happens when I have a bag of radishes from the discount bin at the organic grocery store, already sliced bread and perfectly room temperature butter from shooting a Vegan Butter recipe, and I need lunch, and said lunch looks so pretty that what would it hurt to take a few more photos. Open-faced sandwiches -- tartine in France, and smørrebrød/smørbrød/smörgås across Scandinavia, and voileipä in Finland, or stuff on bread as I … [Read more...]
