Tea is a powerful thing. It is served up as the cure for all that ails you - from a broken heart to a broken finger. It's had stories written about it and ceremonies created in its name. The taxation of it incited a revolution and changed the course of a country, and the most expensive version of it costs about as much by weight as gold. After water it is the most consumed drink on the planet. Tea refers both to the plant of the Camellia Sinesis family as well as the beverage made from … [Read more...]
Barramundi with Passionfruit, Lime and Chili
When you have a huge basket of passionfruit staring at you, thoughts of cake and smoothies and ice cream toppings swirl around effortlessly. There was obviously passionfruit cake to be had but sometimes there is more to life than dessert. Gasp. I know, controversial. I started searching the internets for inspiration expecting nothing other than sweet treats but suddenly this brilliant idea appeared. It was an aside, a quick mention in the middle of a beverage post, but it caught my eye - … [Read more...]
Things and stuff and more things – Dessert!
What is it about dessert that inspires such awe and devotion? Dessert posts without fail garner more attention than savory meals - no matter how decadent those meals may be. Full TV shows dedicated to amazing creations of sugar and magic have taken over the airwaves in recent years. Even the most decadent degustation meals are punctuated and talked about and defined [more often than not] by the dessert choices at the end. Good desserts are the popular girl at the party, the new mysterious kid … [Read more...]
Ohh, look, pretty and sparkly
It's only the 3rd of January and there are Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns in the grocery stores already. Easter Eggs. Can we not even get through Valentine's Day first? Come on now, let us breathe! Now it's no secret that I love fireworks. They're like a shiny jewelery store window display x1000, but … [Read more...]
Cornbread Waffles with Cinnamon Apple Compote
Now I figure that all this trip recapping will go on for quite a while, and in the meantime the least I can do is make you brunch. That said, it is only fair to let you know that the sub-title of this post is 'the brunch we didn't have until now'... Someone Tweeted a pic the first day of Blogher from Cafe 222 in San Diego. I looked it up on The Google Machine and decided that as it was just on the edge of Gas Lamp, and only blocks from our hotel, we needed to go there immediately if not … [Read more...]
Ahh-ha moment(s)
1 - Thanks to a post on The Pioneer Woman's Photography section I have discovered the 'vivid' setting on my Nikon. Can I get a hallelujah. Amazing. Have been incredibly frustrated by the slightly dull appearance of my photos in pretty much any light and the need to adjust them [or not and just deal with it because I can't be bothered....]. The difference is remarkable. It does make carrots glow even more but for the sake of everything else, I can deal with that one! 2 - I have just figured … [Read more...]

This is brilliant - a photographer has recreated photographs years later with the most amazing accuracy - check it out. Irina Werning - Back to the Future. Cousins - we could amuse ourselves for days on this one! … [Read more...]
