When one makes bowls and bowls of meringue and swiss meringue buttercream for a completely insane cake, one is left with a container of egg yolks. And when one is left with a container of egg yolks one has little other option than to make lemon curd (obviously). Now I could have stopped there and eaten lemon curd on all the things for days and that would have been ok with me... But there was also an enormous bag of passionfruit on the bench from a recent media … [Read more...]
Blueberry Coconut Smoothie Bowl
The pace of life since we got back from Japan has been hectic at best and, while I'm not complaining about days filled with shooting food for everyone else, I haven't made anything for this little corner of the internet since those Hot Cross Buns. But I figure a new As Seen on Instagram recipe is still a recipe, and one pulled together from a nearly empty fridge and a few freezer staples is a winner in my book. You see, for as brilliant as our trip was we still spent two weeks eating far … [Read more...]
Leftover Fruit Platter Popsicles
There is every chance this recipe looks familiar. Perhaps like a recent smoothie? But when something works you may as well ride that wave as far as it goes. Especially when the wave tastes as good as these do. Yes, you can use whatever leftover fruit you have lying around. Yes you can add juice or coconut milk or champagne. Yes you can eat them for breakfast. I'm glad we had this chat. … [Read more...]
Lime Sherbet and a Gin & Tonic Float
Remember when I made those Key Lime Ombre Popsicles? Well it turns out I had more popsicle liquid than patience to make more popsicles -- and in a flash of genius I figured that the combinations would make pretty good sorbets. What I didn't count on was that when frozen, whipped and swirled the texture and flavour of the resulting frozen concoction was the stuff childhood memories are made of. You see we didn't often have ice cream in the freezer growing up but I have a very … [Read more...]
Watermelon & Roasted Strawberry Popsicles
Another year has come and gone, and once again the speed with which it has passed left me nearly speechless. I probably should have made this into a wrap up post of some kind, a reflection on the year with a positive quote about goals and the future... but while 2014 has been a year of fabulous success and learning and excitement it's also been one of struggle and fear and big decisions and I really don't feel like recounting any of it at the moment! What I do feel like however is … [Read more...]
Strawberry & Blood Orange Frozen Margarita
There I go again, making summery, freezing cold treats in the dead of winter. Ironically this delectable beverage is, well other than the frozen bit, entirely seasonal. You see while strawberries are ripe for the picking (pun entirely intended) in NSW during late spring and early summer, they roll out of tropical Queensland by the tonne all winter long. They are sweeter and juicer and less expensive now, even being shipped a state down, than they are coming from only an hour or two away … [Read more...]
Ombre Key Lime Popsicles
I once got an award at a work Christmas party for something along the lines of "why say something in three words when thirty will do", and while I can be prone to talking about pretty much anything to anyone, I think I managed to use up almost all my words the other day over on that Vegan Butter post. So I'll keep this short, sweet and seriously image heavy... Popsicles are infinitely easier to photograph in winter, especially when the temperature of your living room is hovering … [Read more...]
