If overlooking the beach and air-kissing with the beautiful people of Sydney sounds like the perfect way to ease into another week this one's for you. Thanks to the 2013 Aperol Spritz Sunset Sessions -- at Icebergs during November and Watsons Bay Hotel December through March -- you can chill out each Sunday through the silly season from 4pm until late. The Bondi Sunset Sessions feature beats from some of Sydney's hottest DJ's including Andy Webb, Valerie Yum and Kali, and of … [Read more...]
Strawberry, Cucumber & Coconut Water Slushy
A dose of refreshment on a hot day, a dose of sunshine on a rainy day -- this frosty drink is as appropriate post-yoga as it is post-beach. Another thing I've decided to do as part of my sticking with what works approach is to finally dig out recipes and pics from the past year or so that haven't made it into posts yet. This was shot -- ironically enough almost a year ago to the day -- using stunningly sweet new season berries and coconut water from a young coconut. I froze the fresh … [Read more...]
Chargrilled Broad Beans
I'm kind of stuck right now. Pulled this way and that, feeling as if very few things are actually moving in a forward direction while others zoom right past. I haven't been posting much lately as I can't seem to find anything to write. The recipes come, as do the photos, but then I simply draw a blank. I thought taking a bit of time out would help, reignite the words perhaps, but it hasn't. So instead of waiting or writing rubbish just to fill in spaces I'm going to stick with what works … [Read more...]
Tahini & Raspberry Power Breakfast Shake – a PB&J twist
After taking September off from the Secret Recipe Club while we ate our way across the US, I'm back with a bang and excited to explore all the lovely creations that appear each month. My SRC assignment for October was Baking and Creating with Avril and as usual I was spoilt for choice. I took to her side-bar tags for inspiration and the first thing to catch my eye was a Pumpkin Swirl Bread, however as I've been a bit heavy handed with the pumpkin lately I figured I'd simply bookmark it … [Read more...]
Pumpkin & Coconut Cake Bites – Vegan and Sugar Free
If you're going to bother roasting pumpkin you may as well cut up a few kilos. It only takes a few extra minutes for the cutting, doesn't require any longer in the oven, and means you can make a plethora of pumpkin creations to suit any mood. I'm actually guest posting over at Swah's blog today while she eats her way across America-land so I'll make this brief, but the whole pumpkin I roasted last week made its way first into these cookies then into Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream (with a few … [Read more...]
Vegan Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream & Halloween Ice Cream Bars
Pumpkin makes me think of autumn, simple as that. Overflowing bins of carving pumpkins just crying out to become jack-o-lanterns. Costumes and candy and festive parties and crazy decorations. The promise of Pumpkin Pie at rapidly approaching holiday dinners. I've said it before and I'll say it again, no matter how long I live in Australia I still associate end of year holidays with cold weather -- and Halloween falls firmly in this category. People in many parts of the world don't … [Read more...]
Vegan Chocolate Magic Shell & Halloween Green Goo Magic Shell
Seriously? How cool is magic shell? It starts all liquid-y then BAM it's frozen and shatter-y the minute it hits anything frozen. The stuff from the grocery store has all sorts of crap in it of course, but you can make it at home with just two (or three) pantry staples. As these two versions were used to coat Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Bars (stay tuned for the recipe tomorrow!) I left them un-sweetened and the slightly bitter edge paired brilliantly with the ice cream, but if you … [Read more...]
