We hear it all the time, “you can make a difference in someone’s life for less than the cost of a cup of coffee…“
Well thanks to CafeSmart, an annual initiative from charity StreetSmart, on Friday 7 June 2013 coffee won’t just kick-start your day, it could change someone’s life. Really.
“How will my cappuccino/macchiato/latte/tall black/short black/flat white/mocha caramel whoozywhatsitcino help others?“, I hear you ask.
$1 from every coffee sold in participating CafeSmart cafes any time tomorrow – Friday 7 June – will be donated to the CafeSmart project.
How easy is that? You’re probably going to buy a coffee at some point anyway so you may as well seek out a participating cafe and support the cause – it won’t even cost you any more than your usual cuppa.
StreetSmart’s CEO, Adam Robinson explains, “Homelessness is an issue which too often falls under the radar or worse, is stuck in the too-hard basket. When something like CafeSmart comes around it’s a reminder that it’s the small gestures that make a difference.”
“It’s so easy to take part in CafeSmart and bring friends or colleagues along to be part of the solution. You’re going to help someone, for whom a morning coffee is a rare occurrence, and aid them in ways they’ll never forget.” Robinson says.
CafeSmart brings together coffee lovers – from coffee roasters and cafes, to coffee drinkers across the country – to help people who are homeless. Funds go to local StreetSmart projects and in 2012, over 200 cafes around Australia raised close to $75,000. That’s a lot of coffee.
So this Friday make a special effort to visit a participating CafeSmart cafe and Drink Coffee Do Good.
Oh, one more thing for all you crazy coffee Instagrammers out there…
You can enter to win an OTTO Stove Top Espresso Maker (worth $698) simply by helping to spread the word.
Just snap a pic at your favourite participating CafeSmart cafe and upload to social media before midnight on Friday 7 June… Anything from latte art to your fave barista is fair game as long as it ‘captures the essence of cafe life’.
There are all sorts of requirements for hashtags and platforms so make sure to check out the terms here.

No I don’t drink coffee, yes I am supporting this cause anyway because I think it is a great initiative, this is in no way sponsored.
