It’s only the 3rd of January and there are Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns in the grocery stores already. Easter Eggs. Can we not even get through Valentine’s Day first? Come on now, let us breathe! So, as an army of one with seven tonnes of explosives behind me, I’m staging a revolt for at least one day and reverting back to New Years Eve instead of jumping ahead to February or March.
Now it’s no secret that I love fireworks. They’re like a shiny jewelery store window display x1000, but better – and Sydney does some of the best shows out there.
Plus, we’ve managed to find an amazing spot to watch them for the past two years…
…a within walking distance, no makeup required, wear your best singlet and flip-flops, hold hands on the way down, take the local shortcut while the crowds go the long way, spot. Big win, huge.
I took my trusty little point and shoot instead of the DSLR. No tripod, no remote, just a hopefully not-to-shaky grip and as limited of an exposure as possible. I’ve even gotten pretty good over the years about watching the sky and just shooting so I don’t miss the show in the process of trying to capture it – big bag of tricks I tell you.
Between a big ‘ol pash from RJ on the strike of midnight, a sky fully of sparkles and New Years Day at the beach, it’s been a pretty good start to the year. Next up a humble little recipe to hit January with a running start!

Fantastic photos! I wish I had been in Sydney to see them this year…sometimes I take being a Sydney sider for granted. Thanks for reminding me that I live in a pretty spectacular city!

Hot cross buns cannot be resisted 😉 Waiting for them to make up a new holiday between April and October just to merchandise it! Oh look, July shaped chocolates and decorations – GET SOME NOW!
