For so long I took photos only for myself. And then I got better at taking photos and started shooting for other people. And somewhere along the line I kind of stopped shooting for myself. Then last weekend RJ requested fish tacos with mango salsa for dinner and there was something so very perfect about the pile of fresh, brightly coloured produce we brought home from the shop that it simply had to be photographed. Of course not just made and shot but chopped and dropped and spread … [Read more...]
Roasted Tomato & Tuna Pasta
I've realised recently (or perhaps I've been aware of it for quite a while, ahem) that I rarely share recipes for actual meals here. Cakes and cookies are well represented as are sides and sauces and things made with bourbon, but it seems -- other than an occasional sandwich which totally counts as a complete meal -- that brunch is about as close as I get to full blown, serve to guests or family members for dinner, dishes. Or tomatoes - pureed into a drink or roasted for sauce ... ... or rubbed on garlic-y bread with a drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of thyme. Simple and perfect. … [Read more...]
Fire roasted tomato sauce
So I like pasta shaped like stuff other than pasta – no, not THAT kind, get your head out of the gutter! This kind: Pasta shaped like Swedish elk heads – could you resist?? They also tend to look like angels or crabs depending on the angle and current mindset of the observer. Even better they are wholemeal and organic….you’d never guess they are from Ikea…huh? Really, hence the nationality of the elk. But more to the point...they quickly made friends with a bag of organic plum … [Read more...]
