Yep, you read right my recipe alongside Maggie Beer, imagine that. If you’ve been around these parts for a while you’ll remember back when my Pear, Goat Cheese & Caramelised Onion Jam Sandwich won the ‘What can you pair with a pear’ recipe competition.
Well that very recipe is now rubbing shoulders with creations from Australian chefs such as Vincent Gadan, Justin North, David Bitton and the aforementioned Maggie Beer, in a new cookbook from Australian Pears.
Rediscover Australian Pears is chock full of more than 60 recipes that showcase how pears can be used for everything from breakfast to dinner to dessert. Also included is Bulgogi Style Beef with Pears from my bloggy friend Shez.
“Being a pear grower myself, it’s no secret that I have a fondness for this delightful fruit. The cookbook is a great way for home cooks to understand how pears can work well in both sweet and savoury dishes and which kind of pear is suited to which dish,” says cook and food powerhouse personality Maggie Beer.
The book is available from newsagents for $17.95 but right now Australian Pears is giving away one copy a day until July 3.
Ok, on to the tea part of this installment of Tea Time Tuesday…
Tazo Green Ginger, a creamy, spicy blend with green tea, ginger, lemongrass and a touch of pear – how’s that for a tie-in.
A cup of this tea takes me straight to the Upper East Side streets of NYC, as I discovered it when we were living there. No matter the time of year or outside temperature I would get a huge cup from Starbucks and take a moment to breathe in the fragrant steam.
The coffee giant no longer carries this flavour but I can get it in a few grocery stores around the city, and I always pick up a box each time we visit. It gets treated like gold and pulled out only when simply nothing else will do. It calms my head and soothes my soul, kind of like NY…
Cup check: Mini pint glass [so not a pint, obviously, but the same shape] picked up in a homewares store in the main street of Bowral.
Tell me, what’s in your cup?

Congrats on the published recipe. I love pears and will look out for the book. Must try the sandwich with my next loaf of no knead bread. The first one was gone before it could get to be toasted!

Wow, put that on my Christmas list. And we have what looks like a huge crop of pears this year, after last year’s frost at blossom wiped out the whole crop. I could do a seasonal Sunday lunch featuring pears!!
