I was a teenager in the 90's and embraced - as you do - all the trends that came along with that oddity of a decade. The first few years were an 80's hangover with side pony-tails, layered colour blocking, boxy crop tops and atrocious floral prints... you know, about what the runways and chain stores are flogging right now. I am currently refusing to shop anywhere that resembles the inside of my closet 20 or so years ago. Step away from the neon, step away. Then came grunge - the biggest … [Read more...]
Gluten Free Almond Pie Crust
You know I love to tease a bit and split up recipes... this is the perfect example. Purple Pie filling a few days ago, today the crust to put it in! I adore this crust. I discovered it ages ago over on Maria's site, made it that very evening and filled it with some form of spiced sweet potato custard, made it again for pumpkin tarts around Christmas and again for the first test of my Purple Carrot Pie a few months back! I was hesitant at first though, and couldn't quite understand how … [Read more...]
Purple Carrot Anniversary Pie
Sooo, most of the time, although there is always a healthy rant waiting just around the corner, things here are generally covered in cocoa powder and sprinkled with glittery, shiny stuff. Well, the truth is that I've been a bit, scattered, lately. The daily grind seems to be getting the better of me and my little corner of the interwebz is taking the brunt of the resultant neglect... It started somewhere around February or March when my laptop [that had not been backed up since November] died … [Read more...]
Pawpaw, Papaya & Summer Inspired Rice Paper Rolls
I had never eaten a Rice Paper Roll before moving to Sydney, for that matter I had never eaten Pawpaw or Papaya before going to the Cook Islands. It's not that I grew up sheltered, it's just that I grew up in the suburbs of America-land in the 80's and 90's - Chinese Food and Pizza was about as international as our town got back then... One of the first places RJ ever took me to eat was a brilliant little Asian hole-in-the-wall in Marrickville called Old Thanh Huong. That original visit … [Read more...]
Noosa International Food & Wine 2012 – Part 2 of 3
I know, I know, Part 1 was a bit of a tease... some travel, a few treats but not too much of the food from the Noosa International Food & Wine Festival - so very unfair of me! Well then, lets get to it with some of the notable dishes from the Food & Wine Kiosks and a few of the Demos. So much tasting happened on Saturday in The Grand Marquee we didn't partake in too many of the plates on offer at the Kiosks - and the meaty ones RJ ate escaped my camera lens - but these are the ones … [Read more...]
Perfect Apple Crumble Pie
I love Pie, it's as simple as that. Crust I can take or leave - unless it's chocolate or graham cracker and attached to Cheesecake but that is another dream for another day - but Pie filling, yes please. Custard, cream, fruit, whatever, they're all fair game. Needless to say, I was quite happy when we chose 'Sweet as Pie' for our June Sweet Adventures Blog Hop. I'm not sure if you remember my Crazy Pink Pie from a few months back but shortly after making that one I went even more out … [Read more...]
Sydney Good Food & Wine Show – Ticket giveaway!
It's no secret I love a good food event so I was chuffed when I was contacted by Chobani to see if I would like tickets to the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show. Having never attended I was eager to go this year and as such had already entered into a Facebook contest for a double pass from Australian Good Taste Magazine - but really who ever wins those things... right? Would you know it, the next day I ended up with another set of tickets. With no worries about how to get myself, RJ and some … [Read more...]
