…is the general reaction, usually followed by ‘not the best time of year is it?’. Well if you have had lunch, dinner or pretty much any social occasion with us in the past 8 weeks or so you have already heard about The Detox/New Diet [cue doom music]. It isn’t really that bad – no sugar, no white flour, no alcohol, no cow’s milk dairy, no chocolate [even the dark stuff], no saturated fried-style fats…all with a generous complement of supplements, herbal tonics and full [wallet draining] support of the organic food industry – ok, a bit full on, but really it’s the obvious stuff, stop eating processed crap. Good thing neither of us smoked or drank coffee to begin with or it really would have been feral here for a while – sugar anger is bad enough!
It does mean that I can’t have my favourite food nearly as often [Chocolate Cake of course] as it contains all of the offending ingredients, but I’ll live [for now!]. Same as one pound some how becomes 5 and one more cookie manages to be 3, it is amazing how one take-away dinner a week somehow turns into not cooking more days than we do, and you don’t realize how much sugar exists in EVERYTHING you eat till you start looking for it. RJ lost 4 kg in the first 2 weeks [claimed he was fading away, still here and doing fine though].
What it means is that when we go out we’re more careful mindful, we are eating a lot more veggies, fruit and whole grains and cooking much more. I’ve found some great products that will stick around after this is all winding down, and you’ll be seeing some recipes soon! Last night was homemade pizza, yum.
