It's only the 3rd of January and there are Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns in the grocery stores already. Easter Eggs. Can we not even get through Valentine's Day first? Come on now, let us breathe! So, as an army of one with seven tonnes of explosives behind me, I'm staging a revolt for at least one day and reverting back to New Years Eve instead of jumping ahead to February or March. Now it's no secret that I love fireworks. They're like a shiny jewelery store window display x1000, but … [Read more...]
A taste of New Years
Just a quick peek into our New Years Eve and New Years Day for you... It started with a New Years Eve Day treat from Gelato Messina. A year of being 90% sugar and dairy free needed to end with this amazing stuff. I could work my way through the entire range in one sitting but instead, RJ and I split a cone of Bounty [Coconut Gelato with Chocolate bits] and Yoghurt & Cherry. After seeing the 9pm fireworks at home [just behind the trees, through the window, almost] we headed down to … [Read more...]
Things and stuff and more things Thursday
If you follow on Twitter or Tumblr or Instagram you may have seen some of this - or you may not have - so here is some stuff that caught my eye over the past week [lets be honest, month] or so... Of course the food comes first... I can only imagine the dinner party brilliance this would inspire. The Dead Celebrity Cookbook definitely would have made my Christmas list had I known about it before today. I love sht like this! Now I have been whinging about the weather quite a bit lately but far-out, this year has been more like autumn in Philly than summer in Sydney. However Mother Nature finally … [Read more...]
Merry Christmas!
There will be pics of a Christmas Eve feast, and a family Christmas Day lunch and of a couple of recipes of course, but for now... a Summer Fruit Christmas Card because nothing says Christmas in Sydney like mangoes and cherries... Christmas wishes from a Santa as old as I am, his reindeer side-kick and my new cupcake ornament from mom. The cupcake better watch out for that reindeer, fatty is looking hungry again... And a quick snap shot of the most gorgeous Christmas Day we've had in … [Read more...]
To the D to the C to the W-A-S-H…oh never mind
I bet you forgot all about the fact that I was recapping a big'ol trip, didn't you - not particularly surprising as we left San Diego headed for DC back in October and then, well, what can I say, it was a really loooong flight. But look! Here we are, on the ground and the adventure continues... Over the next few trip posts there will definitely be a hotel decorated in red and cow hide with statement pink lamps [not even joking] and 2 afternoon lunches at the same a DC institution [oysters, … [Read more...]
Black and White Wednesday – Pie Crust Prep
Remember the Whole Spelt Pie Crust from a few weeks back? Look at me being all dramatic and artsy photographing the dirty dishes... Now excuse me while I put on a beret and sunglasses for this next statement... for posting in The Well Seasoned Cook's Black and White Wednesday I call this picture: After the Pie Crust This has been a interruption to your regularly scheduled programing. Now go make some Pie. … [Read more...]
