So when we started the detox my first concern [obviously] was how I could make cake that we are ‘allowed’ to eat. This was followed very soon after by how I could make pizza happen but that we'll get to later. I have determined that I love the thought of cake as much as cake itself. It’s in part due to the texture – the dense, rich, comforting wonderfulness that you just can’t get from anything else. No it’s not a carb craving [toast with almond spread solves that], or a sweet craving [piece of … [Read more...]
Professional diagnosis
After yet another Saturday morning of soul sapping house hunting...... JJ: I'm just a big fat mess RJ: You're not a big fat anything...you're a little tiny mess JJ: Yep, that works ______________ But no matter our current challenges, our thoughts go out to a world that is getting more devastated by the second. From Japan to California and everything in between, I can only hope that it doesn't get worse and that recovery is as swift as possible. Be well. … [Read more...]
Day by day
So yesterday was one of those days where you just want to pack it all in. Why am I doing this again? and why isn't anything going right? and just plain grrrrrrrr. I haven't one for a while and I'm getting better at knowing that the tide will turn (and getting better at just taking a deep breath), and after a good run and cup of tea last night and a good yoga session this morning we're on an upswing. Today, things are coming together again. And the EveryDay Muffin Mix that has been staring … [Read more...]
Definition of Irony #1
Apparently I can’t boil water. I can make a mean cake, bake beautiful bread, create a mad curry paste and turn pretty much anything healthy [except this insanity, I don't want to even try to turn this healthy, I want to undo 4 months of healthy to sit on the kitchen floor and eat the entire pan with a big glass of milk], but what happens when I boil water….this: oops. Luckily I caught it before it started to smoke, just. Yes I boil water for tea in a pan. No we don’t have a kettle. … [Read more...]
Covered in flour and chocolate
So the final recipe testing is ramped up and I'm churning out final Mixes and packaging-artwork-worthy goods! Spent most of the afternoon on Monday mixing and measuring and tweaking and baking and cleaning it all up afterward….and oh to have a test kitchen like this one, and an assistant to clean up after it all. Watch out Martha, I’m coming. It may take a bit but I’m coming. [hey, someone’s gotta dream big!] So the amazing thing about baking is that small changes can have such a … [Read more...]
Smells like summer
So scent is one of the strongest triggers for memory...When it rains on a hot day the smell reminds me of the street I grew up on during spring storms; Sultana&Bran Muffins take me immediately to cold mornings at Ro’s house; The other day it smelled like the Jersey Shore in the middle of Sydney [that slightly sharp but not entirely unpleasant humid boardwalk and salt water smell that makes me feel like a 14 year old with a perm]; and Drakkar Noir is 9th grade all over again [and makes me … [Read more...]

For starters - happy March [OMG, really?]. So 30 days in pictures - here is the last one of the lot....A [furry] flower, blooming out of a succulent, basking in the late summer sun.
