...but still cool. On yet another lunchtime wander though Vinnies I found these little lovelys. $5 later and they were mine - all mine. Now what to cook in them?? Thinking they look good for individual Apple Crumbles.... … [Read more...]
Yogurt Cheese
Yes this is a little bit random, but I've got to tell you about this stuff before I start posting recipes that use it - and besides, it's good. Yogurt Cheese is really, in the simplest terms, yogurt from which the liquid has been removed. It subsequently becomes really thick and spreadable and can stand in for sour cream or even cream cheese. The 'cheese' part of the name describes the texture of the finished product more than the process of making it. The best thing to start with is a good … [Read more...]
This is too good…
So while watching the Royal Wedding a few weeks back I tweeted this: 'just one cartoon figure or two more and it would be a Disney Movie wedding!' It was around the time that they panned to the trumpets and I fully expected little animated birds to fly out behind them a'la Cinderella. Looks like I wasn't the only one who thought that....this is all over the place today: Too funny. … [Read more...]
Maybe next time Cornbread
We were at a cafe recently that had on the menu Cornbread Toast with Bananas and Syrup. I didn't get it [the poached eggs were calling my name much louder that day] but of course came home and decided I NEEDED to make a yeasted Cornbread loaf. I love regular cornbread, but I find that if made correctly it tends to manifest itself as crumbly moist chunks rather than a hardy crumb that can stand up to slicing from a loaf and even holding a sandwich. Because I can't just go the simple route I … [Read more...]
Weekend DIY – it’s hammer time
I've decided that I need something made out of wood to use for photographs. As the counter tops are old yellow plastic-y laminate, and the floors are unfortunate vinyl or carpet, and the dining table is almost black, and really really big cutting boards and butcher blocks are prohibitively expensive, I figured I'd just make what I wanted [of course I did]. Had a rough idea of what I was looking for and the answer came in the form of tongue and groove cypress pine floorboards - some how … [Read more...]
Chocolate Cake Karma
Happy Mother’s Day to mom, mum and all the other wonderful mothers out there! I hope you get a day to do whatever you need to do for yourself. Now on to the real reason we are all here...cake! I'm sharing this recipe with you based on the reaction my girlfriend had when I sent it to her recently...K and I lived together for a semester in college after I got back from my study abroad in Sydney. Other than being in the same organization, we hadn’t really hung out much until then… it ended … [Read more...]
I’d have one up all year long if I could
I was over at The Bloggess just now and although her post is about cat thumbs it is also about Christmas decorations. [BTW, she is ridiculously funny and brilliantly inappropriate, read her.] I've never had a cat with thumbs but my grandmother does, that particular cat also sits up like a kangaroo on her back haunches most of the time. Are you completely lost and confused yet, wasn't I talking about Christmas? Anyway, the post reminded my about how my mother completely boycotted taking down … [Read more...]
