I bet you forgot all about the fact that I was recapping a big’ol trip, didn’t you – not particularly surprising as we left San Diego headed for DC back in October and then, well, what can I say, it was a really loooong flight. But look! Here we are, on the ground and the adventure continues…
Over the next few trip posts there will definitely be a hotel decorated in red and cow hide with statement pink lamps [not even joking] and 2 afternoon lunches at the same a DC institution [oysters, lots of oysters, and crab cakes, and prawns, oh my] and perhaps some painting with words [or borrowing pics off the interwebz – entirely mood dependent] for the evening we went out to Adams Morgan and if you would believe it there was not a camera between us – not even a phone – to capture the lovely Turkish food or the great little wine and dessert lounge. But to start, lets go sightseeing…
We spend a fair amount of time in most cities admiring houses and old buildings as we wander around. This is usually followed by RJ researching property prices in said city and both of us lamenting over the fact that we could generally buy at least a 4 bedroom house for the price of a 2 bedroom apartment in Sydney. In DC we really just wandered around and looked… well maybe just a few were for sale…
Oh look, a big white house and the money factory… not quite a white picket fence though.
We took a day trip out to Arlington National Cemetery and watched the first of about five changing of the guard ceremonies seen during the duration of the trip – and not the one of them involved Queenie’s house in London – imagine that. It was stinking hot that day but there is something about the bright sunshine that just didn’t, fit, with the somber nature of Arlington. Sepia seems so much more appropriate for many of these.
And to close out the tour for today, a couple more shots from around the city…
Next up, those pink lamps and some oysters!

We would like to go again…haven’t been in years. That is where we were trying to go…ended up in mountains of North Carolina, thanks to the time share people… Oh well… the mountains are lovely and the Biltmore in Ashville was delightful, decorated for Christmas. But 250 rooms and 8000 acres does seem a bit excessive. I think you inherited your house obsession from me…Nature/nurture…who will ever know.
