Around November I was looking at the artist list for this year’s Bluesfest in Byron and amongst one of the most amazing lineups I have ever seen there was The Indigo Girls. We decided not to brave the madness at the festival over Easter [back when I went – many moons ago – it was tens-of-thousands in attendance instead of over a hundred thousand and really, I can’t be bothered to share porta-potties with that many people anymore, no matter how legendary the bands are], so instead, for Christmas RJ got me tickets to the Indigo Girls show in Sydney – so very exciting!
They played at the State Theater last night, [a great venue, especially for a band that engages with the audience] and they can, without a doubt, still rock. The audience was much more varied than expected – with a reasonably heavy concentration of middle aged men – the couple sitting next to us looked like someone’s grandparents, very interesting.
Back in the 90’s [ouch] I saw them play on campus at JMU as well as at multiple other festivals and concerts – this show took me back to the best bits of my early 20’s in all its hazy drama. Cliche as it may be, these days I am a bit ‘Closer to Fine’. Thanks y’all.
