It’s no secret I love a good food event so I was chuffed when I was contacted by Chobani to see if I would like tickets to the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show. Having never attended I was eager to go this year and as such had already entered into a Facebook contest for a double pass from Australian Good Taste Magazine – but really who ever wins those things… right? Would you know it, the next day I ended up with another set of tickets.
With no worries about how to get myself, RJ and some mates to the show, I figured I’d pay it forward and share the love. And so, compliments of the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show I now have 2 double passes to giveaway to 2 lucky readers!
The Good Food & Wine Show is Australia’s largest and fastest growing consumer food and wine exhibition. This award winning show is in its 11th year and features over 200 exhibitor stands with food, wine and kitchen goods to taste, try and buy. That’s all before the cooking demonstrations in the Celebrity Theatre, special features [Cheese Alley, anyone?] and events. Entry to the show is $30 per person and includes entry to the exhibitor floor and the Celebrity Theater demonstrations [pending seat availability].
Ok, the details… the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show is being held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour from Friday 22 June – Sunday 24 June 2012. The passes are good for entry on any one day of the show – the choice is yours. Each winner gets 2 passes.
As the show is just one short week away this is going to be a quick one! The giveaway is open from 8:30am Friday 15 June – 2pm Monday 18 June, two [2] winners will be drawn on Monday evening and tickets will be posted to winners on Tuesday morning, phew!
UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed – thank you to everyone for entering and sharing your wonderful food event experiences! Congrats to our winners Laura and Muppy, have a great time at the show!

This may sound unusual, but it’s true. Our wedding! It was really important to me to have brilliant food, and we found the most wonderful caterer. She totally inspired me with her food. We went to a tasting where she prepared every dish in front of us in less than half an hour. We were almost speechless. Then on the big day the flavours continued to astound me. I was thrilled to have so many compliments on the food because I’m not sure that happens to often. (PS Hatrick Catering…)
JJ says
How lovely! I was at an event recently where Hatrick Catering did the dessert table – it was so good I asked for the card – and I’m terribly critical of desserts 😉

I’m going to have to go with my wedding night, too!
We eloped in Tasmania and stayed at the Islington Hotel. It was the middle of winter and we had the place to ourself due to a lack of other bookings (win!). They brought in a chef who made us an AMAZING three course meal. We just asked for some kind of meat and a dessert, and what was delivered just blew our minds.
JJ says
How brilliant – the eloping and the fact that the meal was that memorable!
Chanel says
Haha I was thinking of our wedding as well! Held at Muse Restaurant in the Hunter Valley: canapes, 3 courses (featuring our favourite foods like scallops, quail, duck…), and a tiered ‘cake’ of cheese wheels put together by the chef. Amazing.
JJ says
Love the ‘cheese cake’ idea, fab.

I think the best food event I ever went to was a family get together brunch after my cousins Bat Mitzvah – my aunt had it catered with persian food, which was a new experience for me, and opened my eyes to a new culture. that and well the food tasted good… a new take of fried rice
JJ says
Persian food at a Bat Mitzvah – that’s a new one! Thanks for entering 🙂

I surprised my family and friends for my 40th birthday by hiring a chef to prepare a French themed menu designed by myself. The food was magnifique! We had coq au vin for the main with veges and a delcious chocolate gateaux for dessert. Everyone dressed in a French theme – I sported a Moulin Rouge look and there were many berets and painted on moutasches – and we had a fantastic night with French music playing in the background.
JJ says
How brilliant – sounds like a great evening!

my best food event is not a spectacular feast or anything but making a birthday cake for my mum from scratch with my brother. It was a pink 3 layered ripple cake which took me two days to make. i used up about 700g of butter for the icing and the cake was than 2kgs lol! it wasn’t the fanciest nor the prettiest but it was definitely filled with love. My mum was in tears when we presented the cake to her and we had a nice family dinner later on in that evening. To me, that was the best food event.
JJ says
Too sweet! (the sentiment and the cake from the sounds of it – heehee)

I am sad to say that I have never been to an organised food event like the Good Food and Wine Show but Christmas day with my family is a pretty epic event. Fresh seafood as far as the eye can see! I am going to Boston in Sept so maybe I will seek out a lobster boil like the one you went to!
JJ says
Well good luck in the draw then! Christmas with your fam sounds delicious and yes, there is little like cooking lobster in a pot larger than a baby-bath over an open fire in the backyard!

One of my best food memories is from a project I did which brought 10 strangers together for dinner. This particular dinner was in Lilongwe, Malawi and brought together people of different nationalities and social/economic backgrounds who would never have a reason to sit together and share conversation over a meal. This dinner reaffirmed that we have more in common than we think, and can discover these shared life experiences, dreams and struggles when we allow ourselves to share & come together. Food has the ability to provide the opportunity to learn, share & grow in our own community and beyond.
JJ says
Wow – what an amazing experience!

As part of Crave Sydney I attended the 100 mile dinner at Mamre Homestead, I gained knowledge of where food is sourced while supporting fresh local produce, all in a beautiful historic setting and lovely garden.

I had the most beautiful and memorable food experience in Vigan, it’s one of Philippines’ most beautiful cities and it’s a culinary haven for foodies like me. I was so blessed I had my friends brought me to places off the beaten path into historic, non-touristy neighborhoods to taste the best of what this city has to offer. I was also lucky enough to have been invited into locals homes for a meal. Wow! I was soooo thrilled! These Filipinos are so nice and friendly but it is part of their culture, that you eat your meal with your fingers. haha Exciting! My favourite dishes have to be bagnet (deep-fried pork belly), longganisa (sausages)and empanada. The food was so good and delicious now I’m officially in love with it. =)

I always look forward to a big family eating fest whenever I head back to Malaysia. Freshly boiled mud crabs. A goose. Bowls and bowls of bakuteh. Fish, prawns, rice. And the best bit of all? Sitting around afterwards with my uncles and aunties and cousins and grandparents shooting the breeze over a case of tiger beer from the local 7-11.

Such a hard question to answer as I have so many great food memories. A dinner party at The London Foodie’s house was one I remember fondly, so many courses, so much great food, such great company and such warm hospitality. Another on a completely different level, I went to the last TOYS dinner at the beginning of the year by myself and was blown away by the experience and had a great time taking it all in.

its hard to choose but i have a wonderful food memory of being invited to our then landlords house for a ‘chinese bbq’. little did my hubby and i know what we were in for but it was the funnest most delicious and warming bbq we had ever been to, we had truly been invited to share with the family in so many ways, it was wonderful sitting around hot coals cooking marinated meat and other goodies, and then eating it hot glazed with honey….
