After taking September off from the Secret Recipe Club while we ate our way across the US, I'm back with a bang and excited to explore all the lovely creations that appear each month. My SRC assignment for October was Baking and Creating with Avril and as usual I was spoilt for choice. I took to her side-bar tags for inspiration and the first thing to catch my eye was a Pumpkin Swirl Bread, however as I've been a bit heavy handed with the pumpkin lately I figured I'd simply bookmark it … [Read more...]
Pumpkin & Coconut Cake Bites – Vegan and Sugar Free
If you're going to bother roasting pumpkin you may as well cut up a few kilos. It only takes a few extra minutes for the cutting, doesn't require any longer in the oven, and means you can make a plethora of pumpkin creations to suit any mood. I'm actually guest posting over at Swah's blog today while she eats her way across America-land so I'll make this brief, but the whole pumpkin I roasted last week made its way first into these cookies then into Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream (with a few … [Read more...]
Vegan Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream & Halloween Ice Cream Bars
Pumpkin makes me think of autumn, simple as that. Overflowing bins of carving pumpkins just crying out to become jack-o-lanterns. Costumes and candy and festive parties and crazy decorations. The promise of Pumpkin Pie at rapidly approaching holiday dinners. I've said it before and I'll say it again, no matter how long I live in Australia I still associate end of year holidays with cold weather -- and Halloween falls firmly in this category. People in many parts of the world don't … [Read more...]
Vegan Chocolate Magic Shell & Halloween Green Goo Magic Shell
Seriously? How cool is magic shell? It starts all liquid-y then BAM it's frozen and shatter-y the minute it hits anything frozen. The stuff from the grocery store has all sorts of crap in it of course, but you can make it at home with just two (or three) pantry staples. As these two versions were used to coat Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Bars (stay tuned for the recipe tomorrow!) I left them un-sweetened and the slightly bitter edge paired brilliantly with the ice cream, but if you … [Read more...]
Vegan Roasted Garlic Cashew Aioli plus 6 flavour variations!
I never liked mayo. It was viscous and oddly sweet, unnecessary tasteless fat when there were plenty of other perfectly good red and yellow condiments in the centre of the table. I grew up thinking mayo had dairy in it, seriously. It was the the mid-80s and 90's in suburban America-land, before the days of labels screaming 'whole-egg' and way before every sandwich shop and restaurant started smearing aioli on everything in sight. I remember the first time I tasted real aioli, funny … [Read more...]
In My Kitchen: September/October 2013
As good as it was to be off on another adventure it is so very good to be back in my own kitchen and eating veggies on a regular basis. I contemplated doing a collage of the food we ate while we were away but there is just too much of it... I'm not even kidding. Most of the fun things from our holiday ended up on Instagram so if you are looking to waste time, plan an eating holiday, or just make yourself hungry go for it. In the meantime here are a few things from before we left, things … [Read more...]
SABH October – Halloween!
After a few months filled with a few new fabulous guest hostesses I'm back to take my turn hosting for Sweet Adventures Blog Hop. As it is October and I do have a soft spot for all things pumpkin and Halloween, I couldn't quite resist making this month's SABH theme all about ghouls, ghosts and general trick or treat debauchery. This is your chance to use your imagination and go crazy! Put your cupcakes in a witches hat costume, dress them up as little devils or pipe on frosting in the … [Read more...]
