Happy Bloggiversary to me! 84th & 3rd turned 1 year old last week and to celebrate I turned the computer off, boycotted cooking and went to yoga, I deserved it. A whole year, can you believe it? In honour of this momentous event I made French Toast for brunch this past weekend. Not this French Toast, or this one but a whole new beast - Banana and Almond Butter Stuffed French Toast. And it doesn't stop there... vanilla, orange juice, and oh, right, Bourbon. Because you can't really have a … [Read more...]
Eat.Drink.Blog
Eat.Drink.Blog.Eat.Drink.Blog.Eat.Drink.Blog. True, it's what I do for some portion of pretty much every day, but this weekend I had the honour of getting together for a full day of food blog immersion with a group of like minded people from across Australia. People who are more prone to snapping shots of cake before tasting it, who don't mind the entree getting a bit tepid before even thinking about taking a bite, who look for tables with the best light - rather than the most privacy, … [Read more...]
Packaging!! This is a really big deal.
Really big. Huge. This means that 84th & 3rd is about to launch @ThePantry! And what does that mean? Cake! and Cookies! and Slices! and Puddings! and Muffins! It means all natural and preservative free, but more importantly, delicious and addictive and Chocolate and Lemon and Vanilla and...hungry yet? … [Read more...]
My present to you…
...well actually it was my present to me - a new 50mm 1.4 AF-S lens for my Nikon. but hey, a better lens means not only more sanity for me when shooting in low light [kitchen at 9pm + overhead bulb = crappy light + no tripod = blah], but better pics for the blog. And therefore better reading for you! [yep, I'm just as good at justifying new shoes.] You will start to see better [hopefully!] pics mixed in until all the recipes in the wings have been posted - that said I of course want … [Read more...]
Sprinkles!
Coloured-sugar-bits, gotta love that. Tried out two different recipes to make homemade sprinkles - the first of which I saw here, the second being a bit more of a royal icing...The first batch [on the right] I kept very thick, and it was firm enough to set, but ended up settling as little bubble shaped dots ...does anyone out there remember the candy from the 80's that had bright dots on strips of paper, you know, the ones that never quite came off the backing the way they were supposed to … [Read more...]
Cake for good
I was getting a post together about the homemade sprinkles I had been trialling when my sister-in-law called to ask if I could help her out with some CupCakes for my nephew's school. The wife and newborn son of a teacher at the school were in a terrible accident a few weeks ago and tomorrow the school is holding a CupCake fundraiser benefiting the family. A whole lot of year 3 boys are going to be on a sugar high tomorrow. Hopefully they understand what their little community … [Read more...]
It’s a fine line…
...between giving into the urge of letting out bits of progress, and holding it back for an all out launch. 84th & 3rd @ThePantry is so close to hitting market [and being let loose on cake lovers everywhere], but I am trying to keep it contained for a decent release and not just one thing at a time. That said, a peek at what has been going on is of course allowed! The little bits and pieces are just about sending me loopy and I have a bit of a going-in-circles feeling right now - … [Read more...]
